A branded ordering app with live rider tracking that took 14 South London restaurants off commission-heavy delivery apps.
Measured after launch and shared with the client's permission.
FoodGo runs delivery for 14 independent restaurants across Southwark, Bermondsey and Peckham. Most are family businesses with loyal local customers, and until last year almost all of their delivery orders came through the big marketplace apps.
Orders arrived by phone and through three different delivery apps. Each app took up to 30% commission, kept the customer details to itself and printed tickets in its own format, so kitchens juggled three tablets on a Friday night. Customers had no idea where their food was, and the phone rang constantly with "where's my order?" calls.
FoodGo wanted its own app, under its own brand, that customers would actually prefer to use.
Customers follow their rider on a live map, with an arrival time that updates as the rider moves. Riders share their position from a lightweight rider mode in the same app, so there was no extra hardware to buy.
We chose Flutter so one small team could ship both apps at once without the quality gap you often get between iOS and Android. The Node.js API runs on AWS in London, with PostgreSQL for orders and Firebase for push notifications. Rider positions stream over WebSockets and are only kept for the length of a delivery.
Within three months, online orders were up 65% and phone orders had almost disappeared. The app holds a 4.8★ rating on the App Store, and "where's my order?" calls dropped from dozens a night to a handful a week.
